          MEMORANDUM FOR DISTRIBUTION

          SUBjECTt Desert Shield   NBC  Notes #1


          1. Since getting back,   I've begun to notice a   few things   that
          need reinforcement or emphasis. Also, information continues to
          flow in and out faster than most of us can track it. Therefore,
          I intend to provide critical (and timely) NBC information
          ,through periodic updates like this one. Your comments or input
          is welcome.

          2. Spoke with DISCOM Medical Operations Officer 1400 hours
          today. He has 30K atropine kits (disassembled) an hand with 20K
          more complete ones due in within 48 hours. Division Chemical
          will consolidate requests for these Class VIII supplies. Give
          me your requirements particularly for those that will expire Car
          have expired) in the next month.

          3. Nerve Agent Pre-treatment Pill% (PB Tabs) are     available
          through division's DMBD also. Need to get these ASAP as they
          should be provided to soldiers 6 hours prior to deployment.
          Also, make sure atropines are Issued to deploying soldiers prior
          to deployment. Use your Judgement. If 6 hours prior doesn't
          make sense, do it earlier or later.

          4. Working the NBC training program still. Got comments from
          5-5 and 4-32. Need comments from all. Also, need proposed         '.
          program. I-F you would prefer doing your training, let me know...
          SFC Ese and I will look over your shoulder for quality
          assurance, but it*ll be your show.

          5. SVOs are approved substitutes for black booties ONLY IF not
          used be-Fore. In other words, those eVOs you wore to Graf cannot
          be used.

          6. We talked on Monday about receiving supplies after vehicles
          move out. S-4 has a number (around 20) of MILVANs,to be held
          until 20 December. I will coordinate for space If we get bulk
          shipment of CDE (such as BDOs or Atropine) but you'll have to
          coordinate with your 8-4 for space assigned to your uni.t if you
          have specific requirements.

          7. Don't forget, change filters now because the filters
          Division promised are on their way to SA. We'll get them once
          in country. For now, you may have to dip into ICEPACK B. Let
          me know of problems.
