                                  Ist Brigade Chronology




               1. TIME ZONE USED THROUGHOUT : Unless otherwise stated,
               all times referred to in this chronology are local times
               (Zone C).


               2. PURPOSE: To provide information concerning the
               critical events within the lst Brigade during the time
               period 13 January 1991 to 13 March 1991.

               3. Phase One: Defense North of the Tapline Road

                   a. Phase One began on 13 January 1991. The brigade
               received orders to move from FAR WENDY and establish a
               defense in sector. The defensive sector was initially
               south of the Tapline Road and oriented to the north
               roughly parallel to the Wadi Al Batin. This phase
               concluded on 26 January when the brigade moved north to a
               new defensive sector oriented along the Saudi-Iraq border
               to the north and the Wadi Al Batin in the east.


                   b. Important staff actions conducted during the phase
               includcid-


                       i) The planning priorities for the battle staff
               during this phase were:
                          a) Defend critical logistics bases and MSRs
               located vicinity King Khalid Military City and the Wadi Al
               Batin.
                          b) Begin preparation of plans and orders for
               offensive operations during Operation DESERT STORM.
                          c) Coordinate the logistical buildup required
               for sustained combat operations.

                      2) Major orders published:
                          a) FRAGO 91-02: Defend in Sector from NS690485
               to NS960375. Issued to subordinate units iOO700 January
               1991.
                          b) FRAGO 91-02-2: Defend in Sector from NS879588
               to NS990510. Issued to subordinate units on the evening of
               15 January.
