                ISSUE:  N6'Go  terrain

               DISCUSSION:    The  BOX (NBCRS) c!an   function on almost  any type of
  terrain in  the desert     Versatility is dei:initel an asset of this system and
                                                        y
  keeping  up with suppo;ted forces was never' a problem. However, there is a
  type of  terrain in the desert called a Sal)khat, which      in essence is just an
  area of  wet sand and is easily identified by.its dark       color compared to the
 .surrounding terrain, and must be avoided at all costs.       ' This terrain will
  swallow a vehicle in a heartbeat. Recovery operations'become inmu'.nent and
  sometimes require the help of more than orte other FOX (NBCRS) to accomplish
  the task.

               RECOMMENDATION:    A new type of tire     needs to.be developed that
  will distribute-the'weiqht'of-the FOX (NBCR8)'bver a greater area. Wider
  tires may be -.-he answer  to this problem and not only might help-in the
  Sabkhats of the desert,    they would enhance mobility in     soft terrain of   a
  temperate climate.
