                ISSUE:    Double Yfheel  Sampling  Box
                DISCUSSIO14:  Thi:3 box became c)ur Achilles   heel. Sampling     wheels
   must be adjusted before   every mission to ensure that they touch the probe on
   the exact middle. If they are.not adjusted properly the accuracy of the
   system decreases exponentially. The sampling box is vulnerable to destruction
   from rocks and the surrounding terrain. I:t also vibrates loose from the
   punishing terrain in a desei@@- environment. The bottom line is that this box'
   cannot be trusted to   b6.either in the correct position or even be present
   during a mission depending on the-type of terrain that is ou       't there and how
   fast one must go over the terrain to keep up with the supported troops.
               RECOMMENDATION:     A skid plate must be installed beneath the double
   wheel sampling  box to ensure   that it has Etdequate protection from the terrain.
     otherwise a   stray rock or   knoll could :r-ip.it-off. This box also needs to
   be reinforced   so that it  does not vibrate loose.'
