ISSUE: i3eneral Support VersuE; Direct Support Relationships
'Whether the FOX (NBCRS) platoon should be placed
DISCUSSTON:
under the control of the div@Lsion main in a general support mode or placed in
direct support of a maneuver unit continu6s to be a Heated debate. @4y
experience during Operations Desert Shield/Sto= was that of the direct
support relationship..
liECONMI914DI@T16N: Continue to use the direct s .upport relationship
for the FOX (NBCRS) platoon. There was orte problem identified in the 24th ID
(M) during operation Desert Storm that lerids credence to this rational. Once
the line of departure was crossed the division main never had communication
with the divisional chemical company. There would have been no way to task
the FOX (NECRS) platoon to support the fieciessary units, since the division
chemical section has inadequate communications capabilities. Communications
capability needs to be upgraded in both the division chemical section and in
the divisional chemical company, then and only then may a general support
relationship be considered for the,FOX (NIICRS) platoon.'
