ISSUE: Attachment to 2-4 Cavnlry Squadron, 24th ID (M)
'ha DISCUSSION: Easily the most fulfilling telationship the platoon
d during their stay in the Kingdom of Se-.udi Arabia. The cavalry understands
.reconnaissance, both conventional and NBC.. We were allowed unrestricted .
training opportunities and were supported.in our quest for improvement one
hundred. percent. I myself was given free reign to plan and execute my own
training as I saw fit. Essentially I was treated as a troop commander by
virtue of thd'fact that I was a separate I)latoon leader. A young lieutenant
matures and learns at a much quicker pace when this is the case.
:R!:COMME14DATION: Whenever possible ensure that the FOX'(NBCRS)
platoon is attached-to the cavalry for training purposes and in a wartime
situation if the scenario demands it. As stated above the cavalry understands
reconnaissance, both conventional and NBC, and a FOX (NBCRS) platoon can learn
a great deal about how they fit into the, ctivision's overall plan. Most
importantly one can detect NBC contamination as-far forward as possible so
that valuable intelligence information suc!h as type of agent, means of
delivery, etd. can be gathered and disseminated to the division without delay.
intelligence of this nature allows the division the added flexibility and
reaction time to.plan and execute appropriate alternative courses of action
.for follow on forces.
