ISSUE: At@tachment to Scouts c)f Maneuver Task Forces
'DISCUSSION: Two FOX .(biBCRS) vehicles were attached to Ist BDE, 24
ID (M) for movement from a'd-ivi'siorial objective located south of the Euphrates
River, to the brigadels'battle position astride Highway 8 in Iraq. This was
the division's biggest threa-i- for E!ncountEtring chemical warfare agents. The
brigade employed us with the scouts of'thc.@ two'lead task forces. The scouts
were configured with six EMiVs and-two M'4s.
RILCONMNDATION: Continue to 4E!rploy FOX (NBCRS) assets.in
'ips of this nature if'the threat of NBCwarfare is present. However,
scenar
never employ less than two FOX (NBCRS) systems as was@done here. Two systems
can find, mark and report contamination irt half the time of one system.
Because NBC reconnaissance is not'6cii exact. science and is more of an art, even
with the capabilities of the FOX (NBCRS), and can be time consuming if done
properly, care must be taken not to spread these assets too thinly and with
inadequate protection as was the case herei. In-a HMMWV scout platoon I can
truthfully say that I felt safer than the scouts, since at least I had some
armor protection. If there were not two 112s in this platoon I would never
.consent to employment.of the FOX (DIBCRS) E,.ssets in this role ever again.
Dbnlt.ever put the:FOX. (NBCRS) assets with anyone who has less protection-than
they havel
