         APPENDIX 1 (HEALTH SERVICES) to ANNEX D (Operations)to 3D MEDCOM
         FSOP

         1. GENERAL: Purpose - To prescribe standard procedures for the
         provision of medical support in the MEDCOM's area of operations.

         2. RESPONSIBILITIES:


             a. Medical unit commanders and staff officers are
         responsible for coordinating their plans and activities with
         supported and supporting units.

             b. The MEDCOM will:

                 (1)  Provide command and control medical headquarters for
         the assigned area of responsibility.

                 (2)  Provide medical staff services to higher
         headquarters command.

                 (3)  Nursing services will be provided as outlined in
         ARTEP 8-122, Task 7-8 thru 7-15.

             C. Unit  Medical Service:

                 (1)  Units with organic medical personnel will provide
         their own unit level medical support.

                 (2) Units without organic medical personnel will receive
         unit level medical support through mutual agreement with
         neighboring units possessing the capability or by separate
         medical units on an area basis.

                 (3) Units unable to make satisfactory local arrangements
         will notify their higher headquarters through command channels.

         3. HOSPITALIZATION:

             a. SDecialization: Designation of specific medical
         facilities for the treatment of particular categories of patients
         may be made by the MEDCOM.

             b. Treatment of us Civilians: US Civilians may be treated
         in US military facilities on an emergency basis when approval has
         been granted to each facility specifically.

             C. Allied Personnel: Medical care to allied military
         personnel in the US military facilities will be afforded on a
         space available and humanitarian basis. They will be transferred
         to their own national control as soon as possible.
