         1. (U)    GENERAL


              a.   (U) Purpose. To provide a concept of operations, assigned
         tasks, and provide guidance for a medical service system in support of
         joint operations envisioned in the basic plan.

              b. (U) Objectives.

                   (1) (U) To establish general medical policies applicable to
         medical support of operations in the Corps Area of Operations (AO).

                   (2) (U) To ensure medical tasks, functions, and
         responsibilities are clearly delineated and properly assigned consistent
         and capabilities of Headquarters, Ist coscom.

         2. (U) CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS


              a. ""J+@ Medical support will be provided by accompanying medical
         units in support of forces deployed to the Corps AO. Medical treatment
         facilities established in the Corps AO will be austere and limited to
         that essential for the preparation of casualties for further evacuation,
         or to provide treatment for short term casualties for their most rapid
         return to duty. Patients requiring treatment beyond the capability of
         deployed medical units will be evacuated to US military hospitals
         outside the Corps AO.

              b. (U). All suitable means of transportation in the AO will be
         used for patient evacuation. Priority will be to aeromedical evacuation
         out of the AO and will be augmented by surface evacuation as required..
         Evacuation to US military hospitals out of the AO will be as directed by
         the Joint Medical Regulating Office (JMRO). Evacuation from the AO will
         be in accordance with patient needs and the evacuation policy.
