Epidemiology: This disease is caused by skin penetration by a parasite from
infected snails. It is manifested by flu-like symptoms which may become
progressively worse; it is seldom fatal. ...
Distribution and Seasonality: Schistosomiasis occurs only in isolated areas
of Saudi Arabia, but is extensively distributed in Iraq and certain areas of
Kuwait. It is prevalent in areas of standing water, ponds, edges of rivers,
and other areas where snails abound. Infection rate is highest form June to
    September.
Prevention: Avoidance of wading, swimming, or bathing in bodies of water
where snail populations may occur. In cases where wading may be necessary,
proper wear of uniform should reduce infections.
