               MEMORANDUM THRU

               SUBJECT: After Action Review

               1. The concept of operations for this   unit was assignment to the
               217th Medical Battalion, who were put   in support of the 2nd ACR
               and Ist Cav. The role of this unit was to provide one Clearing
               Platoon to the 2nd ACR, and Headquarters.Platoon and two Clearing
               Platoons were to be with the Battalion in'support.of the lst Cav.
               One of these Clearing Platoons wasto support the-Ist Cav
               directly, while the other Clearing Platoon had a dual mission, to
               support the Ist Cav and also expand the holding capabilities of
               the MASH unit assigned to support the lst Cav. Expansion of the
               MASH capabilities also included triaging.for a mass casualty
               situation. This Platoon was to provide coverage until the MASH
               was operational and able to take surgical patients;,.at that time
               all Immediates would go straight to ihe MA.§Il.

               2. On 24 February 1991 the 2nd ACR advanced   into Iraq. This
               unit's 2nd Clearing Platoon moved.with the Regimental Support
               Squadron and TF 217. The Platoon'traveled.in convoy apprp)@imately
               90 miles to PL Corona..The next morning they travelled to'PL '
               Smash, where they set up a treatment Tent and Holding Tent to see
               casualties as forward squadrons were-in contact with the enemy.
               Approximately five American and fifty Iraqi patients were
               treated. Patients were also seen.on 2.6 Feb 91, and two platoon
               personnel.went to the front to helpwith wounded via helicopter.
               The Platoon continued to see.io@t@ie   .@during movement through 28
               Feb 91; on that day one medic also went'on,@a-halicopter with
               patients to provide enroute medical care to'.POW's. The Platoon
               convoyed through Kuwait, and on 6-'Mar 91 arrived at 332nd Medical
               Brigade site and rejoined the unit.

               3. This unit's Headquarters, ist and 3rd Clearing Platoons moved
               into operations with the Ist Cavon-26.Feb 91, with the ist Cav
               being utilized as ARCENT Reserve until such;time as they were
               needed to help surround the Royal Guard. The 217th Med Bn and
               subordinate units moved out to go through the breach into Iraq.
