*This unit has been dining exclusively at its own field mess. It was
er the
past 10.days. PM personnel identified procedural breakdowns in the
handling of fresh fruits and vegetables (lack of chlorine disinfection step
in lettuce). Chow hall procedures have been corrected and are being
closely monitored.
2. Results are pending from a third FIXED WING base (U=4500). There has
been an ongoing diarrhea problem at this location (3-5% per week) over the
past 3 weeks. Local nationals are involved in preparation of salad items,
and were initially not disinfecting with chlorine. The chow hall problems
have been addressed at the highest levels, and improvements are being made.
3. Results are also pending from a large infantry unit (N=2000). There
are currently minimal problems with diarrhea at this site.
