1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT PHASE:
From October on, it was evident that FH 22 would be called up.
By third weekend of October, plans were laid for the Predeployment
conference in early December, Camp Pendleton to involve command
staff, air det/advance party personnel. All statements from otir
Reserve Centers continued to be prefaced by "if or "we have no
information. The Reserve Centers did give out factual information
as it was received from REDCOM level. Better information at the
Detachment level will only occur if REDCOMS receive info frum
higher authority and pass it on through HDQTRS and Reserve Centers.
For those individuals attached to PH 22 at a relatively late
stage, receipt of accurate information became a serious problem and
might be correctable through a welcome aboard type statement from
our command staff. This could be generic document prepared in
advances realizing we would receive augmentees without knowing
specifically who they would be.
Some Dets received queries from REDCOM18, other dets did not.
Recall bills were activated to obtain requested info which was
forwarded up chain of command and never heard of again. Anxiety
levels rose measurable with each recall bill exercises and no hard
data returned. Several billet scrubs occurred at Dets, HDQTRS, and
New Orleans level. Each adding to the confusion at Det level as
names appeared and disappeared again. Perhaps a better system of
t should be developed.
Pre Deployment conference at Camp Pendleton was very
productive in terms of general deployment info. Site confirmation
proved to be inaccurate. Nursing administration involvement
revolved around setting up functional teams based on feedback in
data sheets requested by Fli22 HDQTRS, The feedback was only 33% of
the manpower in FH Nursing service and therefore inadequate. A
better system of identified persons and their-potential for recall
in a specific billet would be most efficient. Flexibility as to
where the billet is located so as to capture the right person
inspite of the place in which he lives may be more appropriate.
