                 HOSPITAL SB[IPS

COMUSNAVLOGSUPFOR issued guidance for minimal medical capabilities on
the hospital ships during the transit to CONUS. Capabilities to be maintained
                 included: I operating room, 24 medium-care beds, 24 light-care beds, 2 intensive-
care beds, commensurate ancillary support, and enough personnel to achieve re-
duced operating status by arrival in CONUS. USNS Mercy and USNS Comfort
stood down as of 11 March 1991 and began to implement their deactivation plan. In
addition, an AMAL review is planned for fall 1991 to determine the status of medi-
cal supplies onboard the hospital ships.
