multicolor , An. fluviatilis and An. pulcherrimus have been
reported resistant to Dieldrin and Lindane. An. multicolor and
An. stephensi have also been reported resistant to DDT. Aedes
aegypti would be the main vector of Dengue. Ae. aegypti is known
to be resistant to DDT, Dieldrin and Lindane.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis is vectored by the sandfly Phleboto-
        mus sergenti

        9. Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Low risk. All forms are reported to be present in at least
low endemic levels. PPNG has been reported in the eastern
province. Gonorrhea cases were reported 16.8 per 10,000 popula-
tion. No AIDS cases have been officially reported to the WHO.

Avoidance of sexual contact is the best prevention, but if
contacts occur, "safe" sexual practices, such as use of condoms,
are strongly advised. Treatments and contact management should
be in accordance with NAVMEDCOMINST 6222.1 and the Sep 1, 1989,
MMWR 111989 Sexually Transmitted Disease Guidelines." (Vol. 38,
        No. @-8)

        10. Animal Associated Diseases

Low risk. Rabies is reported to be enzootic countrywide at
low levels. The eastern province has a moderate endemic level
from Kuwait to the UAE. The reservoir is the fox population.
Risk should be considered for all urban and rural areas.

It is recommended that personnel be prudent in their contact
with all domestic and wild animals. General guidance for the
management of animal bites is found in NAVMEDCOMINST 6220.4,
"Rabies Prevention and Control." If there are any questions,
bites of any kind should be reported promptly to local public
health authorities and/or to NEPMU-7. It is adviseable to have
Human diploid cell rabies vaccine (HDVC) and rabies immune
d it be indicat-
        ed.

Low risk. Risk of Brucellosis (4.6 cases per 10,000 Pop.
reported) is low and associated primarily with consumption of
unpasteurized dairy products. Sea snakes of the family Hydrop-
hidae are native to the Persian Gulf, and may be dangerous to
divers. They rarely attack man unless provoked.

        ii. Other Health Considerations

Low risk. Risk of Schistosomiasis is dependent on exposure
to fresh water impoundments. Both Schistosoma haematobium and S.
mansoni are moderately endemic. Risk is in widely scattered
areas countrywide. Annually, 12-18,000 cases of schistosomiasis

                                        4
