are reported. Risk free areas include the city centers of the
following cities: Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, Tabouk, Taif, as
well as the coastal areas of the Persian Gulf. Exposure to
freshwater impoundments should be avoided or, if impossible,
minimized. Low risk. A large serogroup A Meningococcal outbreak
followed the 1987 Mecca pilgrimage. Risk group includes indi-
-viduals who share housing with asymptomatic host nationals
potentially harboring Meningococcal organisms. A vaccination
certificate is required from all international travelers from
Ethiopia, India, Morocco and Syrian Arab Republic. Meningitis
vaccine is recommended only for individuals unable to avoid
prolonged contact with the local population.

           1-2. Climate Consideration

Terrain is mostly uninhabited, sandy desert. Climate is
harsh, dry desert with extremes of temperature. No perrenial
rivers or permanent water bodies. Developing desalination
           facilities.

Due to high temperatures and low humidity, heat injuries and
eye and mucous membrane irritation may impact significantly on
personnel, especially May thru Sep. Adequate fluids, eye and
           skin protection are recommended.
