  leadership at all  levels of command were undoubtedly

  responsible for:

  -- Remarkably low number of beat related injuries experienced

      thus far during DESERT SHIELD.  Troops have done well in

      spite of extremely harsh desert conditions.

  -- Diseases and nonbattle injuries occurring at a rate much

      lower than predicted.


- An effective aeromedical evacuation system has been developed

  to transfer patients to medical treatment facilities with a

  level of care commensurate with their needs.

  -- C-13o aircraft and helicopters are employed within the

      theater while C-l4l's are used for evacuation to Europe and

      the U.S.


- A blood program has been established to allocate blood products

  to the medical treatment facilities throughout the theater.


  -- Two transshipment facilities have been established to

      receive blood from either Europe or the United States.

          Blood will be stored at these facilities and will be

          distributed to each component  (Army, Air Force, Navy,

          Marines)


  -- Blood originates from the United States Blood Donors Centers

      who draw. test, and ship blood to the Armed Services Whole

      Blood Processing Laboratory   (ASWBPL) which ships the blood
