A person with 40 quarters of coverage is also fully insured. Social Security benefits are payable in addition to Veterans' Administration compensation. Social Security will provide a monthly income to a widow(er) who is 62 years or older, to individuals having custody of child(ren) under 18, dis- anled child(ren) 18 or older, or child(ren) between the ages 18 and 22 who are full timo students. Appl~cation for benefits may be filed by survi~ors with eit~er the Veterans' Administration or with the Social Security Administration. tn addition, proof of relationship filed with either agency will be made available to the other agency. UNIFORMED SERVICES IDENTIFICATION AND PRIVILEGS CARD Upon death of a Marine, t~e Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card(s) (DO Form 1173) held ~y nis survivors becomes obsolete, but will be held by them for identification purposes until new cards are authorized. Issuance of new cards will be author~zed for all eligible dependent survivors. Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card application, OD Form 1172, will be provided by Headquarters Marine Corps or other military installations authorizing issuance of cards for the widow, unmarried children under 21 years of age (under 23 if enrolled in a full-time course of study in an approved institute of higher learning) and parents who have been officially determined to have been dependent upon the deceased for over one-half of their support at the time of his death. Upon request to the Commandant ~r the Marine Corp8 (Code MMSR-6), applicat~on will be provided parents and parents-in-law, if they actually resided in the household of the deceased or a household maintained by the deceased, and were in fact dependent upon the Marine for over one-half of.their support at the time of his death. When entitlement to a Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card has been established, the application will be certified and returned to the applicant for the issuance of the card(s). The Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card is not normally issued to minor children under ten years of age. Certification of minor children for medical care is the responsibility of an adult dependent, parent, or guardian. The Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card will identify the holder as an authorized patron for the benefits and privileges indicated on the card, `wnich may include medical care in Uniformed Services and/or civilian facilities and commissary, exchange and theater privileges. ~EDICAL CARE If a member was performing duty pursuant to a call or order that did not specify a period of duty of 30 days or less and his unmarried eligible widow, unmarried dependent children under 21 years of age (age 23 if in school), parents and parents-in-law who were actually residing in his home or in a household main- taLned by him and were dependent upon him for over one-half of their support at the time of his death, are eligible for medical care in Uniformed Service Facilities where facilities for dependent care is available. Under the pro- visions of the Military Medical Benefits Amendments of 1966, hospitalization and outpatient cara from civilian sources is authorized for unremarried widows and unmarried dependent-children. Medical care from civilian sources is not author ized for ~arents and parents-in-law of deceased members under any circumstances. Hospital and outpatient care provided in both Uniformed Services and Civilian facilities are outlined in the C~AMPUS Pamphlet. Dental treatment is adminis- tered only as an ad)unct to in-patient hospital care and does not include routine filling of teeth, straightening of teeth, or artificial dentures. ~-o6 8
