TOPIC:   Vehicle Recovery Operations

DISCUSSION:

Vehicles can easily be stuck in soft sand or break through
hardened sand.

ThESSON(S)  LEARNED:

A stuck vehicle can be freed from soft sand by bleeding out about
a quarter of the air in the trapped tires.    "Sand ladders" can
also be used.    Additional recovery gear should be carried such as
air pumps,   "sand ladders," shovels, tow bars, ropes, chains, etc.
