TOPIC:   Sand Storms/Dust Storms Affect on Radio Systems

DISCUSSION:

Sand storms and dust storms can occur with little warning.  These
storms generate static electricity which increases the noise
power encountered in HF radio systems.  The storms do not
materially affect VHF voice systems using frequency modulation
techniques

LESSON(S)  LEARNED:

Use VHF/FM as a primary means of communications during sand and
dust storms.
