OPERATION DESERT STORM, PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
1. (U) MISSION STATEMENT. To protect the health and combat
effectiveness of Marine Corps and Navy personnel by eliminating
or reducing the effects of adverse environmental conditions and
disease threats encountered during Operation Desert Storm. The
employment of comprehensive environmental health, vector control,
f@ield sanitation and general preventive medicine support services
will accomplish this mission.
2. (U) CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS
a. (U) The most comprehensive preventive medicine support
services and effective use of manpower and resources can be
provided by the combining of preventive medicine assets from the
ist and 2nd Medical Battalions. The combined unit will be task
organized into a General Support Preventive Medicine Section and a
Direct Support Preventive Medicine Section.
b. (U) The General Support Preventive Medicine Section
(OSPMS), based at the USMC Hospital will provide preventive
medicine services to General Support Group (GSG)-l and OSO-2 units
and other I-MEF units requesting support services.

C. (U) The Direct Support Preventive Medicine Section (DSPMS)
based with the Direct Support Command (DSC) will provide
preventive medicine services to Direct Support Group (DSG)-One and
DSO-2, subordinate Combat Service Support Detachments and
Activities, and other IMEF units requesting support services.
d. (U) Per reference (a), any IMEF unit that requires
preventive medicine support beyond their organic capability must
submit a request for support to either the OSPMS or the DSPMS as
appropriate.
3. (U) IMMUNIZATIONS. Per reference (b), all personnel deployed
to Operation Desert Storm will have received the following
immunizations:
