COMMUNICATIONS
The communications platoon continues to support all of the battalions
ommunications and maintenance requirements during Operation DESERT SHIELD.
he platoon has concurrently supported two battalion command posts
4kaintaining continuous communications from the battalion to reconnaissance
teams patrolling and from the battalion to division using a variety of
communications assets to include, but not limited to: Digital
Communications Terminal (DCT) over HF circuits using field expedient
antennas,
., Position Location Reporting System (PLRS); Digital FAX over VHF
novered circuits, CW and secure voice. In addition to Supporting all
Operation DESERT SHIELD requirements, 25% of the communications platoon
remains at Camp Pendleton.
MOTOR TRANSPORT
The Motor Transport section continued to provide transportation +or
all battalion training and administrative evolutions. The licensing
program for HWWMV operators continues and to date 106 Marines have been
licensed in Saudi Arabia. The battalion relys on its organic M183 assets
to perform the majority of its troop transportation and resupply convoys.
A more extensive preventative maintenance program has been introduced to
counter wear on all battalion vehicles.
EDUCATION AND SERVICE SCHOOLS

MEDICAL
Throughout October the Battalion Aid Station (BAS) continued to provide
support to the entire battalion. The battalion was augmented with a
medical officer and additional corpsmen from Camp Pendleton. The personnel
of the BAS conducted classes on the hazards of the Saudi Arabian environ-
fnent, Nuclear Biological and Chemical (NBC) Warfare and general first aide.
Corpsmen updated immunizations and JLkmp/SCUBA physicals to the extent
possible. The battalion maintained high state of medical readiness with
100% of all personnel in a deployable status.
