                                        COMMAND OPERATIONS AND TRAINING

                 Batteries "G" and "H" remain attached to Zd Satt'alion. Sth Marines and I'd
              Battalion. Bth Marines resdectivelv for LF6F ODerations and will not be
              addressed in this narrative.  The month of February ooened with the battalion still
              assianed the mission of reinforcing l-,K PA.  Plannina was underway for Oneraton
              "Tic3er Blitz". This ooeration was to be a reconnaissance in force by Ticer Brioade
              across the Kuwait border into the  "orchard" southeast of the Al-Wafrah oil field.
              1-3 FA would orovide direct 5uoport and 3d Battalion. 10th Marines reinforcing
              fires to 1-3 FA.  The commanders and S-3 conducted a reconnaissance of oositi@n
              areas and attended sand table exercises between 2 and 3 February.    Ooeration "Ticer
              Blit-l" was cancelled by CENTCOM on 5 February.

                 On 7 February the Z%d Battalion's tactical mission was chanced to direct suooort
              of Sth Marines. The battalion diSDIaced forward to oos,tions vicinity of OS 8Z,4 @@43
              as Oth Marines moved north to relieve 6th Marines as the screening force for 2d

              Marine Division.  Positions were readjusted the foil @ no day vicinity (2s 889 332
              to SLIDOOrt the finalized fire clans from Sth Marines.  In conjunction with this
              move. a FDC response cell was cc)-located with 1-7 FA for a one day CPX of the
              "Ticer Slit-" fire suooort olan.  On 11 February. the Commandino Officer and S-3
              conducted a reconnaissance  of the battalions final assembly area alona the south
        western Kuwait border.


                 Late on the afternoon of 11 February. 3d Battalion received a warnina order to
              occuov f2rznO DOSitions near the Kuwait border,   L-noace a series of taroets
              between 0600 and 0630 on 12 February. and return to current defensive Do5itions.
              Plannino becan and the verbal frac wAs issued to the commanders early in the
              evenino. "A" Command and the  firino battery advanced oarties displaced forward to
              locations vicinity OS 859 470 at 112300C Feb 91. The firina batteries followed with
              Battery "F" 2/14 dist)lacina at 112342. Battery "H" 3/12 -at 112339 and Battery "I"
              at L20607. All elements w'ere in olace and ready by 120509C. Firina commence! at
              120559 and ceased at 120630.  Six tarcets were enaaaed. firina 376 DPICM and 192
              RAP. After enoaoino the final taroets all elements disolaced south and returned to
              oositioris vicinity OS 889 3Z2. These mission reoresented the first   rounds "fired
              in anoer" by "Seven for One" durina Doeration "Desert Storm".

                 On 14 February the battalion once aoain was involved with ooerations across the
              Kuwait border in the vicinity of the "orchard" southeast of Al-Wafrah oil field.
              Battery "I" was reoositioned  in the vicinity of TM 097 422 to suoport First Force
              Reconnaissance Company's Doeration "Clouseau".   This was a reconnaissance of the
              1. orchard" with Battery "I" to provide fires should an emergency extraction be
              rectuirc?d. The coeration ended an 17 February without reauirina artillery suadort.

                 The battalion becan to disolace to it's final assembly areas for the around
              offensive of Ooeration "Desert Stcirm". The  "A" Command and firina battery advanced
              oarties dedarted 0900 on 17 Februarv and occuoied oositions vicin2 .tv QS 425 685.
B" Command. Combat Trains. and firina battery main bodies de()arted the aarnlnc
              of 18 February. All elements were in olace by 1430.    In order to suooort an
              increased reconnaissance effort across the Kuwait border. Battery "H" 3/12 was
