southern airport security. No enemy contact since 26 Feb. 91.
Personnel and Administration
During this period the S-1 continued to support the battalion
in all administrative details and continued to process and
distribute the ever increasing volume of mail to all companies and
attachments of the battalion.
Logistics/Supply
Battalion supply continued to provide support to the Battalion
via an echeloned configuration. A rear area was manned and
contained the bulk on the Battalion supply assets not issued to
the companies or commodities. A great deal of interface with
Division Supply occurred here in the area of open purchase which
provided tremendous support in contracted items such as air
panels, spray paint for marking vehicles, and numerous other
essential items purchased on the local economy. The majority of
the Battalion Supply section was in the field train, and processed
requisitions and receipts for all items coming into the battalion.
The combat train carried emergency resupply of chow and water.
The tempo of operations for supply prior to the ground war
was fast and furious. During the ground war, there was one
resupply of class IX and MRE'S. Since we started the war with
four days' supply of chow, additional resupply was not necessary.
The fast rate of advance precluded the resupply of additional
class IX items.
The supply section, which remained at Camp Pendleton,
completed an inventory of all assets. Turn in of assets to the
RBE consolidation lots, continued. Over 100 "All TAMS, 100 "HI'
TAMS, and 250 "El' TAMS have been turned over. Accountability for
those assets turned in was transferred from M93874 (lst Tank Bn.
REAR) to M93879 RUC (IIQ BN REAR)
Communications
During this period, the Communications Platoon installed 26
Position Location and Reporting Systems (PLRS), installed RT-246'S
in Company Commanders' tanks to improve communications on the
Conduct Of Fire (COF) net, and installed an AN/VRC-83 UHF radio in
the Battalion Conmander's wing tank for the Battalion FAC. The
platoon also perfected the concept of pushing maintenance support
forward using a highback HMMWV as a field maintenance facility.
This concept contributed greatly to the high percentage of
communications reliability. During Operation Desert Storm the
Communication Platoon provided 100% reliable communications for
the duration of the ground offensive.
