                  (b) CG I MEF msg 190403Z Oct 90

        1. Per ref (a), the following is submitted:

             a. Basic Assumptions
                  1) That Iraq has both non-persistent and persistent chemical
                  capabilities.
                  2) Although Itaq has numerous weapons systems that can deliver
chemical warheadsi,it would be difficult for them to contaminate
more than a company sized area at one time which would require
decontamination. 'For planning purposes, a company will equate
to 200-250 personnel and 15-20 vehicles.
        2. Per ref (a) and the basic assumptions above, the following is
        provided:

             a. Do units have authorized decontamination assets on hand?

                  1) No. The below lists shortages of major decon equipment
                  assets within ist MirDiv.

Note (1) Some M12Alts are-still-inbound aboard ship. Most were
left in CONUS'due to projected quantities aboard MPS
shipping.,, These-projected quantities along with numerous
M171S promised were thought to be sufficient.
Additionally, the M12Al is an old and unreliable unit
which, because if its size, is difficult to transport.
