    The United States' armed forces achieved a huge victory in
Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and we can all be proud of their
singular, decisive success.

    It is a pleasure for me to be here today to talk to you about
the role that naval forces played in Operation Desert Storm.


    Of course, this was much more than a U.S. victory-- it was a
coalition victory -- it was a triumph of good over evil -- it was a

victory of technology and tactics, of logistics and leadership, o~

domestic, political and moral support and of internal and

international cohesion.
