21 - A cardiac arrest protocol was approved and distributed.
21 - LTJG's Linda McCord and Dudney were frocked to LT in FH5's
first officer frocking ceremony conducted by the commanding
officer.
22 - The first orthopaodic procedure conducted in the main
operating room was an examination, under anesthesia, right
shoulder by Lcdr Joseph wieck, MC on patient 5 USC
The first orthopaedic operation conducted in the main
operation room was an irrigation and debridement and open 522(b)(6)
reduction and pinning of a right index finger open fracture
by Lcdr Adam Thorp, MC and Lcdr John Ternes, MC on patient
5 USC 522(b)(6)
22 - In Radiology, the first shoulder arthrogran study is
conducted.
22 - The first TLD (Thermoluminescent Dosimetry) badges are
assigned to the Radiology staff.
22 - Laboratory put on line its ability to perform basic
chemistries: bilirubin and urea nitrogen.
22 - The first helicopter, a U.S. Army Sea Ranger, landed and
then departed using the FH5 helo pad.
22 - A barber shop opened in a small temper tent adjacent to the
berthing area, providing hair cutting for both male and
female staff members.
23 - First SCUD missile drill in combination with mass casualty
drill, required all hands to wear gas masks.
23 - First type and cross match of blood performed for two units.
25 - First transfusion of blood conducted by the Laboratory.
25 - The first helo pad night operations were conducted.
26 - General Grey, Commandant of the Marine Corps, visited FH5.
26 - The first ENT operation, a septoplasty, was conducted in the
erating room by Lcdr Galantich, HM2 Hoeben and HM2
Dehning.
26 - The first trauma case was an I and D of GSW of the right
shoulder.
27 - Seven wards and two ICU's are closed to consolidate manpower
and conserve power and equipment resources.
