                                 DATA COLLECTION

The Third Armored Cavalry Regiment (3d ACR) was a fast

moving unit consisting of three armored squadrons, an aviation

squadron and a support squadron. Each armored squadron had

approximately 1000 soldiers and was equipped with MlAl Tanks,

Bradley Fighting Vehicles and self-propelled howitzers. The

aviation squadron was equipped with Kiowa Scout helicopters and

Cobra Gunships. The support squadron provided medical,

maintenance, transportation, personnel and general logistical

support. The clearing station supported by medical troop

(company in infantry vernacular) was located at the clearing

         station.

Patient care visits in the 3d ACR were tracked weekly, or as

frequently as the tactical situation would permit, at the four

line squadron aid stations, the regimental headquarter's aid

station and the clearing station. Data was tracked from October

14, 1990, to February 23, 1991. Records of patient care visits

were maintained in aid station and clearing station log books,

and data was cummulated weekly. The preventive medicine officer

(GMW) tallied data from the clearing station and reviewed data
