              During that period, the main body of the 37th Combat

         Engineer Battalion was located approximately two miles from the

         3d ACR clearing station and accounted for 8.7% of the total

         visits to the clearing station. This independent engineer

         battalion received primary medical support from medics and

         depended on nearby units for physician support. The remaining

         39% of the 237 patients seen at the clearing station were from 29

         separate military unit that were not attached or assigned to the

         3d ACR.

             The percentage of sick call visits by disease category for

         the first two echelons of medical care is shown in Figure 1.

         First time visits for injuries and nontraumatic orthopedic

         problems accounted for a quarter of total health care visits,

         with orthopedic problems representing the most common specific

         indication for soldiers seeking health care. First time visits

         for respiratory, dermatologic and gastrointestinal problems each

         accounted for 7% to 12% of health care visits.
