There were approximately 200 women (4% of total) in the 3d

ACR. Gynecologic problems accounted for 0.4% of patient visits.

Three pregnancies were encountered during operation Desert

Shield, resulting in administrative evacuation from theater.

Sexually-transmitted diseases (STD) in both males and females

accounted for just 0.5% of patient visits, and almost all STD

visits were for chronic problems, primarily venereal warts.

Although emotional stress and boredom were commonly

experienced by 3d ACR soldiers, health care visits for emotional

problems represented only 0.7% of visits (20 patients) to the

squadron aid stations and 1.5% of visits (54 patients) to the

clearing station. During Operation Desert Shield there were less

than 10 referrals to the clearing station for suspected acute

stress reaction, with only one requiring evacuation from theater.

Approximately 20 cases of stress related to family issues back in

the U.S. resulted in consultation at the clearing station. None

required evacuation back to the U.S.

The one dentist in the regiment worked out of the clearing
