        SUBJECTI Chemically/Biologically Protected Shelter (CBPS)

        PURPOSEI    To provide information on the CBPS candidate for
        potential surge.

        FACTS:


        1. Capabilities;

             A. HMMWV mount@d NBC/environmental support system and
        inflatable support system.

             b. Designed to be erected/strLtc@, 270 times( 30, 3 day
        missions, 3 times/day ) with erection time of less than 21)
        minutes.


             C. Used primarily by Division level medical units +or
        treatment of casualties in a chemical/biological environment.

             d. Provides 34 hours protection in a contaminated
        environment. 72 7our mission profile.

             e. Stand alone shelter requiring no additional interior
        Support.

        @@. Dimensions- 300 sq +t of interior space.

        3. System is air transportable.

        4. Program is in 6.3B development. Full ROC approval is
        expected at the end of October which will allow the program to
        transition to 6.4.


             a. BDI- 2 per Battalion Aid Station (BAS), 4 per Med Co
        (Div), 4 per clearing platoon Med Co Clr.
             b. Estimated Army reqltiremnts for Desert Shield: 400.
             C. Cost per system: $180,000. This includes the HMMWV,
        shelter, power generation unit, environmental control unit, high
        mobility trailer, 1OKW generator.
             d. Minimal RDTE funding required to complete accelerated
        program. $1.OM.
