        SUBJECT: Minutes of Desert Shield BW work Group


        4. Anthrax.

            a. COL Erdtmann reported that the Chairman, JCS had a
        The Army Surgeon General for an expert opinion on the use
        Ciprofloxacin. TSG asked the AFEB to review the use of Ci
        and the Board concurred with the proposed use. The AFEB d

            b. COL Tomlinson stated that Cipro should be delivere
        theater in blister packs by 3 January 1991 and more in bul

        and a proposed CENTCOM policy on BW defense against anthra
        botulinum will be delivered to CENTCOM within the next few

        Special Forces Command requesting

        certain SF units. COL Lewis and the group concurred in
        supplying the               CPT R.L. Erickson for use at F
        Bragg.

            d. LTC Lyon-Dean stated that the British have enough
        anthrax vaccine. A decision to use has been made. The po
        concerning prioritization are still being worked out.

            e. COL Tomlinson stated that another 30 day supply of
        doxycycline had been purchased and will be shipped into th
        and available to all services and civilians if needed.


        4. Botulism.

            a. COL Tomlinson stated that the vaccine and antitoxi
        botulism are available. Production of the vaccine is movi
l accelerate. The antitoxin is proceeding.
        horses have been immunized. There is a buy out for anothe
        horses. There is a question as how to best immunize and t
        being investigated.

            b. COL Dievendorf said there are plans to place about
        doses of antitoxin in theater. A protocol is being develo
        and a team will take the antitoxin into theater. The CENT
        Surgeon will exercise control in theater.
