U.S. Forces in Operation Desert Shield/Storm (U)
1. (U) Purpose: To provide information on the medical BW ise
readiness for U.S. Forces in Operation Desert Shield/Storm
2. @ Facts:
a. +64,From 1988 to the start of operation Desert Shi

production and stockpiling program using the limited indus
base capability in CONUS. Contracts for production of ant

Department of Public Health in FY88 and FY89, respectively :he
AMEDD. other BW vaccines such as Venezuelan Equine Enceph
became part of the stockpile when it transitioned from Mil
III at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Comm

accumulated, and production surge in Aug 90 could not meet
requirements because limited industrial base and strict Fo-

Desert Shield, Army immediately made the stockpile availab. the
services to be used according to CENTCOM priorities.
