                                        INFORMATION PAPER

              1. PURPOSE: To Provide Information Regarding Availability of
              ciprofloxacin 500 mg Tablets.
              2. Subject: DPSC stocks of Ciprofl:oxacin/industrial base
              capability to manufacture adequate supplies of Ciprofloxacin.
              tablets to meet AOR requirements.

              3. Facts:

                  a. Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) has been selected as the antibiotic
              of choice.

                  b. Quantities procured will be based upon the premise of
              treating 500,000 U.S. service members with one 500 mg tablet twice
              daily.
                  c.  To ensure that adequate supplies of Cipro are available to
              provide treatment regimen continuity, a two month supply of the
              drug is considered essential.

                  d.  Based upon the above scenario, 30M Cipro tablets will be
              r @ ired for a 30 day course of therapy.

                  C. DPSC stocks as of 29 November   1990 reveal that the
              following quantities of Cipro tablets  are available in depot.

                  f. Miles Laboratories has been queried regarding the
tity requirements for
              Ciprofloxacin. Additionally, Miles Labs was asked about packaging
              cipro in unit of use blister or strip packages as well as
              expediting delivery of initial large quantities of the drug once a
              commitment was received from DOD.- The following information was
              provided regarding production and delivery of Ciprofloxacin 500 mg
              tablets.
