            1. Using lap-top computer to begin epidemic surveillance of'

            troops.



            2. Temperature in 107 - 109 range during day

                 WBGT index   89 - 92 in shade

                              3 - a degrees higher in sun

                              97.5 highest



            3. Acclimatization taking about 1 week.



            4. Sun rises 0530; sets 1800.



            5. Low number of heat injuries. Command awareness and

            discipline for water intake excellent.



            6. Diarrhea a problem in some places but not everywhere in

            Division; attributes mostly to sanitation deficiencies. mild

            type. No dysentery seen.



            7. Crowding of troops into single building is commonplace,

            e.g., 1,000 soldiers in one maintenance building on post. 16
            sq ft/man - about 1/3 needed by doctrine. Buildings are air

            conditioned. URIs common, but not problematic.
