1. MISSION: No Change
2. SITUATION AND CONSIDERATIONS
a. Enemy situation: No Change
b. Friendly situation:
(1) Status of unit PVNTMED readiness: Strong command
emphasis placed on preventive medicine measures has resulted in
disease and non-battle injury rates being lower than expected.
FORSCOM has directed deploying units to identify and train field
sanitation teams. Instructions supplies to be used by field
sanitation team has also been provided. See Encl 1: Information
Paper, SGPS-PSP, 16 Nov 90, Subject: Preventive Medicine
Support. Encl 2: Message, FORSCOM, FCMD, 201145Z Nov 90,

(2) Status of potable water supplies: New water
quality test kits for PVNTMED teams have been assembled. Nine
have been shipped to teams in the theater. An additional twenty
three kits are being prepared for shipment. Information on
obtaining new test kits should be directed to- the FORSCOM point
of contact (CWO Atkinson, AUTOVON 797-3099).
(3) Status of vector control: Prior to deployment
soldiers should treat uniforms with pormothrin insect repellent
(NSN 6840-01-278-1336) following directions on the label.
Approximately 3/4 can of permethrin will treat one desert battle
rm (DBDU). Permethrin is for uniform treatment only
and is not to be applied to the skin. At least two tubes of
DEET (NSN 6840-01-284-3982) should be issued to soldiers prior
to deployment for application to the skin. See Encl 2: Message,
