SUBJECT: VII Corps MSC SITREP Issues (U)
Phase II cannot be supported. Phase III-V cannot be supported
without a minimum of 200 miles of cable. CECOM has shipped 200
1000 foot sections of WF-16 which is not sufficient to support
future operations. The Brigade is authorized 686 one mile reels,
deployed with 626 and has consumed approximately 500 miles since
deployment. COSCOM has initiated action to locally procure 600
miles of WF-16 to meet our requirement of 400 miles. (G4)
(3) Shortage of tape for the AN/TYC-39 Message
switch: the BDE's four message switches are critically short
tape: 7010-01-112-7724 or 5835-01-203-0450. The brigade message
switches are processing an average of 27,000 messages per day, a
rate almost 15 times higher than REFORGER 90. The tape allows
for the storage of messages which is required to insure the
customer's traffic is routed and delivered. Units are required
to maintain messages for 30 days, but current stocks provide only
a 2-3 day backup putting the message traffic at risk. 500 reels
have been ordered on the Desert Express. NSN 5835-01-203-0450

DOC NO WK4TMQ10130024 (100). 9AU NSN 7010-01-112-7724 for DOC
NO WK4UIF10182001 (150), WK4UIF10182002 (50). Need a CONUS hand
carry now. Desert express is not responsive. (G6, G4)
(4) @ Shortage of batteries BA-5590/U NSN 6135-01-
036-3495: VII Corps is critically short batteries to power the
AN/PSC-3 man portable satellites and the associated VINCENT
COMSEC devices. Three batteries are consumed each day per
satellite. The AN/PSC-3 provides the VII Corps Commander the
the VII Corps
Command Net. Recent 321st MMC issue of 500 batteries equal a
three day supply. (Document # W80JYP10250002 for 200 each) (G4)
(5) ortage of GPS: The Brigade was issued 3
GPSs and 6 LORANS on 29 DEC 90. In order to meet mission
requirements during the next phase of Desert Storm, unit must
have additional GPS assets. The LORAN systems are not accurate
enough to position our signal sites. Batteries for the GPS
remain a problem. (G4)
(6) HMMWV: This Brigade has received 240 HMMWVs in
exchange for CUCVS. The new HMMWVs were not fielded with the
Special Tools required to perform scheduled services. The Hmmwvs
cannot be maintained without the special tools. The Brigade
currently has no PLL stockage for HMMWVS. (G4)
(7) Need replacement Brigade S-2 (Authorized MI
Major). Current officer is pending mandatory release from active
duty and will depart the theater on 15 FEB 91. (Gl)
