     13. DECEASED PERSONNEB.

         a. Prior to declaration of death,    deceased personnel will be evacuated to the
     nearest medical facility with a phygican.

         b. Personnel who expire on route to or in a medical facility will be properly
     identified and tagged with the FMC and placed at a collecting point discreetly
     removed from but adjacent to the medical facility.

         c. The senior medical person In charge of the medical facility will notify big
     area commander who will coordinate the disposition of the remains to the graves
     registration point.

         d. Medical evacuation vehicles (air or surface) will not be utilized for
     transporting of remains In time of active combat or for transporting remains to grave
     registration.

         a. Medical facilities will:

              (1) Arrange for a physican to make a deplaration.of death.

              (2) Identify remains of personnel who die an route to or at a facility.

              (3) Complete DD Form 1360 (US Field Medical Card), on all KIA and DOW
     argonnal.

              (4) Inventory personnel effects found on remains and forward with remains.

              (5) Notify GRREG personnel of the number and location of remains to be
     removed.

              (6) Keep remains separated from patients until removed.

              (7) Notify hospital chaplain or designated area coverage chaplain go that
     last rites of faith and/or memorial service can be coordinated (FM 12-15).

         f. Remains will be removed by GRRECI personnel ASAP after notification. Receipts
     for personnel effects will be provided to medical facilities.

         S. Unidentified remains will be assigned an evacuation number which will
     accompany the remains until further identification measures can be taken by ORRECI
     personnel at the collection point.
