Theater and makes all jobs difficult to coordinate. If 483rd
stays as the designated custodian of M & M compound, half of
their people will be on guard duty for the next 2-3 weeks until
the compound fills. This is a problem throughout the Theater and
our enlisted personnel, E-5 and below, spend approximately 50% of
their time performing guard duty and security.
31 Dec 1990
LTC Platt is taking over most responsibilities from CPT
Adams in the Riyadh area. LTC Platt will handle all MWD's and
sanitaries in Riyadh area and MSG Lewis will handle all
operational rations in Riyadh until new assets arrive. LTC Platt
will probably not fall into the Ministry of Defense & Aviation
Hospital (MODA) Lab with the 996th Lab Team (VA) until after 15
January. This is a Host Nation hospital & Laboratory in Riyadh
where facilities are very modern. COL Alm has ordered Rabies
Conjugate, Rabies Control slides, Fluorescein conjugated antibody
and positive and negative mouse brain from LTC Hanna at 10th Med
Lab in Landstuhl. Rabies diagnosis will be set up in Riyadh as
the first Laboratory priority. The MODA Lab has Fluorescent
microscope capabilities.
1 Jan 1991
4 Rabies samples were sent to 10th Med Lab at Landstuhl.
CPT Adams went to Jeddah to perform more sanitaries. Notified
today that some MWD's may have been sent to S.A. with active
cases of Babesiosis. All dogs in Theater are to be bled and
re-checked at lab in Illinois. LTC Dutton forwarded his report
on military working dogs to COL Stamp at HSC. COL Alm is working
with COL Trask to establish a local supply account to obtain
veterinary drugs for all units in the Theater. Attempts to
obtain Rabies vaccine and other drugs have been plagued with
problems because veterinary drugs are not routinely ordered
through appropriated fund channels. This is a problem which
ould be resolved shortly and no critical shortages have
occurred to date. COL Alm intends to control all drug ordering
through one local procurement contract in Riyadh.
COL Alm has been tasked to act in COL Tsoulos absence
between 1 and 6 January to get the MEDCOM office up and running
in Riyadh. COL Tsoulos is out of country until 6 January.
Specialist Cheever was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
2 Jan 1991
COL Trask, LTC Lively and CW3 Brandow traveled to Log Base
"B" and Log Base "A" forward to coordinate movement of new units
in that area and to visit with BG Strong and Staff Veterinarian
of the 332nd Med Bde. COL Bob Taylor, VC and his two JA teams
have stood up and are operating at Log Base Alpha in support of
the 7th Corp. Many new operations are opening up at forward Log
Bases to include new host nation warehouses, ration break points
and several dining facilities. MEDCOM OP ORDER Published.
