submitted to the corps deep operations cell NLT 0500 hours
each day for attack 48 to 72 hours later.
The U.S. and Saudi Special Forces teams were pulled
from lst Cav's sector on 31 Jan. At 1510 on I Feb, the
last of the Saudi Ministry of the Interior border guards
withdrew from their posts, leaving nothing between Ist Cav
and the Iraqi defensive positions.
ADMINISTRATION/LOGISTICS
Though the defense of Wadi Al Batin raised the
maneuver units' tension, the support units of the division
maintained their high level of work. In the class II
arena the push continued for additional uniforms and the
new desert boots. Not until the deployment of the lst
Cavalry Division to the port of Dammam in March 1991 did
the division receive one new desert uniform per soldier.
It also received fifty percent of.the requirement of
desert boots. During the defense of Wadi Al Batin the
biggest concern was the acquisition of a complete chemical
defensive equipment package for each soldier. While at
TAR Wendy the division entered MOPP. This required each
soldier to wear one chemical protective overgarment and
begin taking the nerve agent protective pills. As a
result, each soldier had to be issued another suit and
package of pills. The risk of chemical attack by the
Iraqi forces being high, the division acquired another
15,000 suits.
The two major concerns in supply as the division
prepared for combat were fuel and ammunition. The intent
of the Commanding Seneral was to establish a task force
for each commodity, headed by a lieutenant colonel
personally responsible for pushing that commodity to the
brigades. Task Force Cofer, headed by LTC William Cofer-,
pushed fuel. Task Force Hart, headed by LTC Joseph Hart,
pushed ammunition. TF Cofer integrated the 5000 gallon
tankers of the 43r-d CSS and the 27th MSS. The task force
received fuel from the theater and then pushed it to the
brigades. TF Hart integrated the truck companies of the
P-7th MSB and 43rd CSS. The task force drew ammunitism out
of Logbase Echo and pushed it to the battalions.
In the area of property accountability, the Secretary
of the Army activated the wartime policies. This allowed
the division property book officer to account for property
