2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/04/91.
3. (U) KEYWORDS: FAMILY ASSISTANCE, STAFF FUNCTIONS, RWO (REAL

4. (U) TITLE: Plans and Policy: Expansion of Family Member
Programs
5. (u) OBSERVATION: Numerous family members needing to enhance
their educational level due to assumption a+ head of household
duties during service member's absence.
6. (u) DISCUSSION: Through coordination and assistance from
on-post family support groups, spouses are being made aware of
educational programs. Basic educational needs have been
identified and continue to be identified. Individual needs are
being met through educational programs: BED completion,
sel-F-paced ESL, and Job Skills programs. These programs will
better prepare family members in furthering their education
and/or pursuing a full/part time job, as needed.
7. (u) LESSON LEARNED: none
S. (u) RECOMMENDED ACTION: That family members be included in
all newcomer briefings and that Education Center representatives
be invited to participate as well. Many times service members
and/or spouses have declared ignorance of education programs.
