i. LTC Kirk, Corps G-2 Opns, stated a plastic-wrapped Iraqi
RPG round found by a 1CD patrol across the LD was analyzed. It was
not a chemical round; it was an HE shape charge made in Bulgaria.
j. CPOG/BDO update from IAD: total picked up-to-date,
17,010; total
still required, 5,622.
k. LTC Spidel, COSCOM LNO, reported four Fox vehicles on the
ground at KKMC airfield. IID called to notify them that their Fox
vehicles were there for pickup.
19 FEB 91:
a. SGM Somerville, Corps Chemical, called from KKMC to report
he and CPT Clark were assisting the 11D chemical personnel in
checking out the four new FOX vehicles, conducting an inventory
(each one is about 21 pages), and marking them. All are located at
the General Dynamics FOX maintenance facility, KKMC.
b. CPT Smith, Engr Opns (ACE), Corps Main, reported following
status for engineer preparation of 181 Chem Co deliberate decon
sites -
- NS248798: Finished
- NS380680: Will be completed 20 Fab
- NS420575: Finished
CPT Smith also stated the 51 Chem Co had requested engineer
preparation of deliberate decon sites at NS832430, NS754460, and
NS680488. Commander, 51 Chem Co (CPT Matthews) decon site design
calls for four lanes one-half mile long and parallel, graded ditch
line along each lane, sides sloping toward end, and large slump at
end of each line. CPT Smith said the engineers would have the 51
Chem Co sites done within the next four days.
C. Memo recommending the desired Corps stockage level of fog
oil (3000 barrels) was sent to Commander, 800 CMMC. This memo also
drawing fog oil for the
operation.
d. During a coramander's meeting called to discuss each aspect
of the combat plan, the issue arose as to how MP's will know when
a contaminated area was clear --- given that MP's will direct
traffic around chemically contaminated terrain. Later, LTC Gaffin,
Corps Chem, approached CPT Goudreau, 14th MP Bde LNO to talk about
the issue. CPT Goudreau stated the MP's needed chemical support to
determine when the contaminated areas were clear. LTC Gaffin
stated the chemical NCO's and/or unit chemical detection
