SUBJECT: Continuation Chronology of 3AD NBC Activities For Desert
Shield/Storm
ACTIVITY: Specific details regarding Iraqi chemical ordnance is
provided.
DATE/TIME: 032355L Jan
DESCRIPTION: Chemical munitions were believed to be in crates
stencilled with a white skull and a red "X".
ACTIVITY: RECON Fox vehicles were attached to maneuver brigades.
DATE/TIME: 181800L Feb
DESCRIPTION: Fox vehicles were introduced to the forward units so
that they would be familiar with this new piece of equipment and
therefore would prevent fratercide. Chemical RECON sections
consisting of 2 each Fox vehicles per section deployed forward
with those units who could possibly encounter chemical agents.
ACTIVITY: The logistical management of Chemical Defense Equipment
(CDE)-to include chemical protective overgarments (CPOG),
decontaminants (HTH), M8 batteries, and chemical detector kits
(M256) was shared by both G4 and Division Chemical.
DATE/TIME: 192130L Feb
DESCRIPTION: The Division Chemical Section was identified by the
CG to ensure the logistical management of chemical defense
equipment protective overgarments (CPOG). The CG considered the
division unready to go to war until every soldier has two each
CPOG.
