(5) Personnel who have been absent because of
sickness will not be permitted to return to duty until cleared by
a medical officer.
(6) Handwashing and latrine facilities, to
include separate troop facilities, will be provided for mess
personnel which will include soap, water, and individual towels.
(4) Waste Disposal: Human Waste
(a) Pit latrines, straddle trenches, bucket
latrines, or flush latrines connected to a sanitary sewer may be
used.
(b) Latrines will be constructed:
1. To the rear of the general bivouac area as
terrain permits.
2. To accommodate a minimum of 8% of the
command.
3. A minimum of 30 meters from the end of the
unit area.
4. A minimum of loo meters from the nearest
mess facility and water source.
5. Within a reasonable access to unit
personnel.
(c) Latrines will be fly tight by insuring the box
covering the pit or the buckets contain no cracks or crevices
between planks and joints; soil will be mounted around the base
of the box so that crevices are tightly plugged. For any open
type latrine, each man will cover his own waste with a pile of
dirt.
(d) Latrines will be policed and seats scrubbed
with soap and water daily.
(e) Buildings and boxes will be sprayed with 5%
Diazinon or other insecticide.
(f) Latrine will be closed when contents reach
within 18 inches of ground level and will be mounted with an
additional 1 foot of dirt and sprayed with 5% Diazinon or soaked
with waste oil and clearly marked with a latrine sign giving the
date closed.
