2.(U) Operation Desert Shield/Storm
3.(U) KEYWORDS: Immunization/Prophylaxis
4.(U) Title: Anthrax Vaccine
5.(U) Observation: The initial distribution and administration of
the anthrax vaccine was chaotic and disorganized.
6.(U) Discussion: The initial distribution and administration of
the anthrax vaccine was very chaotic. There were no instructions
issued to units, and most units were given little or no notice on
when they were to receive the vaccines. However the situation was
mitigated since ARCENT did provide mobile vaccination teams to do
the initial doses. Had the ARCENT Medical Staff provided timely
information on the vaccine program, a lot of the chaos would have
been averted.
7.(U) Lesson Learned: None.
8.(U) Recommended Action: In the future, the Army needs to ensure
that information pertaining to the health and welfare of soldiers
be provided in a timely manner.
