2.(U) Operation Desert Shiold/Storn
3.(U) KEYWORDS: MOPP Serviceability/Disposal
4.(U) Title: Chemical Protective overgarment Wear-life,
Serviceability and Disposal
5.(U) Observation: Much confusion existed as to the wear-life and
disposal of the NBC overgarment.
6.(U) Discussion: On 15 Jan 91, ARCENT directed all units to MOPP
level one. This required units to break open the vapor barrier
bag and don new suits. Three days later we were directed to
reduce MOPP level. There was a lot of confusion as to how long
the suits lasted once the barrier bag was broken. Specifically,
the confusion was over whether the suit life was determined by
number of days out of the vapor bag, or days of continuous wear.
7.(U) Lessons Learned: None.
8.(U) Recommended Action: Incorporate NBC overgarment wear-life,
serviceability, and disposal into brigade and unit SOP. Also
recommend that the US Army Chemical School and the Natick Research
0 and Development Center publish clear guidance on the above subject.
