remained to support the non-deployed subordinate units.

1). The initial S-2 personnel deployed consisted of the
S-2 OIC, NCO Intel Analyst, and an enlisted Intel Analyst. This
element established the initial intelligence support with XVIII
Airborne Corps, G-2 and ARCENT, G-2 in Saudi Arabia. The intel
support was in the form of hard copy intelligence summaries
(INTSUM's) produced every twelve hours. The INTSUM's covered the
current enemy situation in the areas of ground, air, TBM,
chemical, ADA, Terrorism, Vulnerabilities, obstacles, and
Assessnent/Courses of action. The Corps also provided weather
support information on the area of operation and obstacle overlays
from the Engineers. In addition, the commander's PIR's were
coordinated with the Corps Collection Manager. Other intel
support was provided by CENTAF through their INTSUM's and special
reports. The overall intel support from higher headquarters was
        accomplished.

2). This intel gathered at BDE was disseminated to the
deployed S-2s. The rear detachment S-2 cell produced and
disseminated INTSUM's based on intelligence gathered from XVIII
Airborne Corps, ARCENT, and DIA. In addition, this element
supported the rear detachment garrison activities. (See rear
        detachment AAR for details).

              e. A shortfall during the deployment phase was the lack of
transportation available to travel to the various communications
centers to pick up the INTSUM's and other intel reports.

              f. Security procedures for the Bde TOC were also part of
this phase. The procedures established included a 24-hour TOC
guard. The access to the TOC was granted to personnel with a need
to know and the proper security clearance. Procedures were access
rosters maintained by S-2 personnel and the TOC guard, and
issuance of TOC pictured badge by the S-2. Personnel who were not
issued permanent TOC badges were temporarily provided a visitors
        badge.

              g. The S-2 section matured and able to maintain a 24 hour
intelligence operation with remaining personnel deployed latter
        part of August.

        2. SUPPORT OF ADA OPERATIONS = DESERT SIIIELD/ DESERT STORM.

              a. The XVIII Airborne Corps G-2, Counterintelligence (CI)
division supported the BDE by conducting high value target
assessments to the deployed units. The target assessments were
based on the terrorist threat to the theater. The assessments
evaluated and provided recommendations for improvements in site
        physical security.

                b. The S-2 established a courier system to handle all the
classified material from the Bde, Corps, ARCENT Supoom, and the
CRC. The courier run was conducted twice a day (morning and
